Singing with ANÚNA and LORICA in Italy and Ireland
I flew off to Italy last month to join ANÚNA for their International Summer Residency. I’ve been such a huge fan of ANÚNA for many years, and the residency absolutely did not disappoint. I learned so much about ensemble singing, my own voice and musicality, and the people were definitely worth flying half way across the world for…not to mention the food! I sang with brand new international ensemble LORICA in Pavullo and Modena during the week in Italy. Then my wildest dreams came true and I was invited by Michael McGlynn to sing as part of ANÚNA, so I joined them for their concert in Ireland as part of the Fleadh Cheoil festival - the largest Irish music festival in the world. It was incredible to sing with ANÚNA on stage, there’s such a special feeling of trust and safety that comes from unifying the breath and not having the distraction of sheet music. I’ll take elegantly holding a candle over heavy sheet music any day! Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to sing more with ANÚNA in the future, whatever happens, I’m just so grateful to have experienced the ride so far.
