Amelia has a rare vocal flexibility in terms of both range and colour, with a full range from an E3-C6 traversing a rich contralto sound, to a powerful middle voice up to a crystalline pure higher register. Amelia takes into consideration the style and specific soundworld of a piece to authentically produce a harmonious vocal sound, perhaps weaving in folk, jazz, baroque, operatic or contemporary elements in line with the intent of the music.

Amelia enjoys nothing more than being able to explore and interpret the endless significance behind a piece of music. She is a passionate performer of Early Music and is fascinated by historically informed performance practice. Amelia is regularly engaged as an Oratorio soloist, with performances including several Bach Cantatas, Bach’s St John Passion and B Minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah and Handel’s Israel in Egypt. Amelia is a regular performer at the Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields Festival, singing as part of the elite ensemble E21. She has also performed with Melbourne Baroque Orchestra, John Weretka’s Medieval and Renaissance ensemble, Sequenza and the Australian Chamber Choir in an early music capacity. Amelia was honoured to receive the Conductor’s Encouragement Award in the prestigious 14th Annual RMP Aria competition 2020.

Moving swiftly through the centuries, Amelia is a skilled performer of Art Song, and relishes in the opportunity to interpret poetry in a meaningful way. Tasmanian Soprano Helen Thompson remarks “Consistently she is perfectly prepared, pitch-perfect, beautiful to listen to, stylistically flawless, with wonderful musical sensitivity and an unusually passionate connection to text.” 

Amelia is thrilled to be trusted by contemporary Australian composers when it comes to bringing their work to life. She has performed several premiere compositions in a choral and solo capacity, and has recently had the honour of premiering two songs tailored to her voice by Sydney based composer Alan Holley. First Light, an entirely a capella piece with poetry by the celebrated Mark Tredinnick, and The Clod and the Pebble with poetry by William Blake. Amelia had the honour of performing the World Premiere of Andrian Pertout’s song cycle Hypatia’s Circle, winner of the Boston Metro Opera ‘Mainstage Award’ 2013.
